Surah Al-Muminoon
Chapter 23 · Verse 82 · Revealed in Makkah
“They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?”
Translation: Saheeh International

Reflection — Ibn Kathir
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ
(And indeed We seized them with punishment,) means, `We tried and tested them with difficulties and calamities.' His saying:
فَمَا اسْتَكَانُواْ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
Reflection — Maarif ul Quran
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
And We have already seized them with punishment, but they did not turn humble to their Lord, nor do they supplicate in humility. (23:76)
