Surah Maryam

Chapter 19 · Verse 48 · Revealed in Makkah

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى عَسَىٰٓ أَلَّآ أَكُونَ بِدُعَآءِ رَبِّى شَقِيًّۭا

And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy."

The Reply of Ibrahim's Father

Allah, the Exalted, informs of the reply of Ibrahim's father to his son, Ibrahim, in reference to what he was calling him to. He said,

أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنْ آلِهَتِى يإِبْرَهِيمُ

Reflection — Maarif ul Quran

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّـهِ وَأَدْعُو رَ‌بِّي

And go away from you and what you invoke besides Allah. And I shall invoke my Lord." - 19:48.
