The story
Ayyub (AS) was afflicted with illness for years. He lost his health, his wealth, and his family's ease. He was a prophet of Allah, and he suffered.
What the Quran emphasises is not his suffering — it is his patience within it. And his eventual supplication: 'Distress has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.'
He did not pretend the suffering was not real. He named it. He brought it to Allah directly. And he was answered.
The lesson of Ayyub (AS) is not that patience prevents suffering. It is that patience keeps the door open.
