Umm Salamah (RA) and steady counsel

The story

Umm Salamah (RA) came to the Prophet ﷺ having already lost her first husband. She made the dua that Khadijah's family had taught — asking Allah to replace her loss with something better — not knowing what that could possibly mean. She was known for her wisdom and her calm counsel. At one of the most critical moments in early Islamic history — after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, when the companions were confused and reluctant — it was Umm Salamah who advised the Prophet ﷺ. Her counsel turned the situation around. She said: 'Go out and say nothing to anyone. Slaughter your camel and shave your head.' When he did, the companions followed. She understood human nature — that action leads, and words sometimes cannot. Her life is one of the quieter stories of the early Muslim community, but it is full of a steady wisdom that proved itself in the most difficult moments.
