Finding Peace Through Loss

There is no timeline for this.

Today we do not try to move past grief. We sit with it. The Quran acknowledges loss directly.

Today’s verse

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌۭ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."

Surah Al-Baqara, 2:156

Reading

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. These words are not just for the moment of hearing news. They are a theological statement about the nature of everything we hold.

Grief is not a failure of faith. The Prophet ﷺ wept when his son Ibrahim died. He said: The eye weeps and the heart grieves, and we do not say except what pleases our Lord.

You are not grieving alone. Every person who has ever loved something has stood here.

Today’s practice

Write their name, or name what you have lost.

In your journal, write the name of who or what you are grieving. Nothing more is required today. Just the name, and that it mattered.

Your reflection

What do you want to remember about them today?
